Publicist says move is for personal reasons.

Alec Baldwin has split from Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the L.A. Times reported today. A CAA spokesman confirmed that Baldwin had parted ways with longtime agents Matt DelPiano and Michael Rosenfeld. No reason for the split was provided.

Baldwin came to CAA in 2002. During his time with the agency, he appeared in critically acclaimed roles in feature films The Departed and The Aviator; had a recurring role on Will & Grace; and won the Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for his role on NBC’s primetime comedy, 30 Rock.

“This is strictly for personal reasons,” Baldwin’s publicist Matthew Hiltzik told the Times. “It has absolutely nothing to do with his extremely talented agents who’ve done great work with Alec.”

The move comes at a crucial time. Baldwin has been headlining entertainment news, tabloid magazines, and blogs since he left a cold message on his 11-year-old daughter’s voicemail. That message made it into the public domain and was available on TMZ.com

Baldwin's ex-wife, actress Kim Basinger, released a statement yesterday denying that she leaked the angry and threatening voicemail. Basinger, who is also repped by CAA, called Baldwin “unstable” and “irrational.”

"Kim Basinger did not release the voicemail. Additionally, the voicemail was not sealed under a court order," said a statement released by the actress's publicist, Annett Wolf, on Monday.

"Everybody is always asking why this custody battle has been going on for so many years, and now they have the answer. The issue is not about Kim or the alleged alienation that Alec constantly refers to; it is about his ongoing aggressive behaviour, " Basinger's statement said.

Basinger is facing trial on 12 misdemeanour counts of criminal contempt for allegedly disregarding court orders concerning Baldwin's visitation rights.

In the voicemail, Baldwin told Ireland she was a “rude, thoughtless little pig” for not answering her phone when he’d called at a pre-arranged time. He also threatened to fly out to Los Angeles to “straighten” her out.

Last week, a family court judge in L.A. heard the message and barred Baldwin from contact with Ireland. A hearing is scheduled for May 4 on Baldwin’s visitation rights.

Shortly after the voicemail became public, Baldwin posted an apology on his website, acknowledging he has been “driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years”. He also seemed to hint that Basinger was behind the leak.

“Certain people will go to any lengths to embarrass me and to disrupt my relationship with my daughter,” he wrote.
